Better Together — A Story We’re Proud to Have Helped Tell

After years in the making, Better Together (formerly What Rhymes With Reason) is finished and finding its audience — and we couldn’t be prouder of the part Smith Pixels played in bringing it to the screen.

Better Together follows Jesse, a broken-hearted high school senior who leads his best friends on a quest left by his father. Their search for the mysterious Zion Point and a legendary meteor shower becomes a journey of friendship, identity, and rediscovering hope — a story about the people who carry us, which is fitting, given how it came together.

Director Kyle Roberts invited us into the project years ago, back when it was early concepts and rough script drafts, and writer Sean Thiessen kept the door open to ideas the whole way through. Andrew Smith directed the photography; Adam Smith came on as a co-producer, helping solve the logistical problems that fill every shooting day. Two brothers from Duncan, Oklahoma, getting to help carry a story this far from home.

The work wasn’t easy — long days, heavy gear, and the hundred small problems a production throws at you before lunch. But everyone, cast and crew, gave more than the job asked. You can feel it in the finished film.

(For one night only, Better Together comes home: Monday, June 22 at 7:00 PM at The Palace Theatre in Duncan, with Andrew and director Kyle Roberts in attendance.)
